    SSR------------------------------------------------------------------------
All high school homeroom classes (2nd period) will have SSR on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.  The purpose of SSR is for students to become better, more effective readers; to increase reading comprehension; and to foster the love of reading in our students.

    Students
    • Bring your own reading material to class.  Find something you'll enjoy reading!
    • Your teacher will check for your reading materials during the morning announcements (at the beginning of class).  You will receive one point if you have your own materials and zero points if you brought nothing / need to borrow something.

    • Visit the library to find reading material that interests you.  The librarian is happy to help you. :]
    • You must write in your journal at the end of each SSR day.  Use one of the writing prompts to respond to what you read.  Everyone must start journaling at the same time, and journals must remain in the classroom.  Your teacher will check your journal daily or weekly.  You will receive one point for each successfully written journal entry.  An acceptable journal entry clearly demonstrates what you read using a writing prompt.  An unacceptable journal entry will receive zero points (too short, too vague, not on topic, etc.).
    • If you are absent, you receive zero points for that day.  If you are in ISAS, you must still read and journal.  You can still receive your journal points for ISAS days.
    • Students should read for about twenty minutes and journal for about the last five minutes.
    • The SSR classroom that receives the most points in a quarter will get a fun/awesome prize.
    • SSR scores will be posted on the chart in the library window to the hallway.
    • Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
